September 12th: Fourth Annual Women in Science Conference

INTERESTED IN STEM SCIENCE?

The Fourth Annual Women in Science Conference is a celebration of women in all STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) professions. Hosted by the Emerald Coast Science Center, the evening will consist of inspirational presentations from professional women in STEM careers. Proceeds benefit the Emerald Coast Science Center’s Girls Engaged in Making (GEM) Workshops. 5:30-7:30pm. ​All ages are welcome, especially middle school and high school students looking to discover careers in STEM. Guests will have a chance to mingle with the speakers and other guest professionals. Food and drink provided. This year, our four professional speakers and one student speaker will discuss what inspired them to pursue STEM degrees, offering their advice to young women interested in following this path, and even note their own female STEM role models. All speakers will be a part of a panel discussion after intermission to take questions from the audience. This is an excellent event for students of all ages and genders to receive firsthand advice and information from local STEM professionals. ​Event will be held in the Student Services Center (Building 400) in the Raider Cafe and Lobby at Northwest Florida State College. September 14th: Doc Holliday’s 168th Birthday Celebration

We are hosting a Doc Holliday 5K “Run from the Law”, a classic car show, best period wear contest, and best mustache contest (to name a few) in celebration of Doc Holliday’s 168th birthday.  The birthday celebration will be held at Warriors Hall in Crestview on September 14, 2019.  The festivities will start with the 5K run at 8am.  We will have music and food. September 28th: Eggs On The Beach

Eggs on the Beach is an official Big Green Egg Grilling Competition and will celebrate the delicious results of foods cooked on the Big Green Egg within a beautiful coastal setting at Seascape Resort. The EggFest will be be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be complemented by the scenic coastal setting, resort amenities, live music and more. There are two groups who attend EggFest: Cooks bring their own food and cook a variety of dishes on a Big Green Egg, which is provided for each cooking team. Tasters come to taste the delectable dishes and vote on their favorites.  The proceeds from Eggs on the Beach will benefit two local non-profits: Food for Thought and the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast. Inviting friendly dogs of all breeds and their owners…a fundraising event for Small Paws® Rescue will be on Sunday, September 29, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Liza Jackson Dog Park, 338 Miracle Strip Parkway in Ft. Walton Beach. The event will feature a meet and greet; canine football costume contest; a relay race for 2-person and 4-person teams in Liza Jackson’s large off-leash area; a dog style musical chairs contest; a live auction fund-raiser; and a New York Deli style lunch provided by Chef Joe Cartenuto and Food For You. Enjoy an afternoon filled with music by Air Force vet, Lee Smith, aka DJ Unconventional.

Admission of $15 for adults and $12 for children under 12, which includes lunch, can be purchased on-site or on-line.
